Super John vs. Joe Judo

As you may have already picked up from my recent silence, I’ve been absolutely buried in both family and academic responsibilities, leaving little time for the highly elaborate stick figure drawings and desperately important fart puns you’ve come to expect from this fine publication. So while I’m digging myself out, I’m elated to present a Very Special Guest Post by a close personal friend of mine: my second grade self.

My mother recently gave me a box of my old drawings and school papers that she amassed over the years, and among them was the following epic superhero tale, which just screams “movie adaptation” (I’m awaiting a call, Joss Whedon).

Without further ado, I give you “Super John vs. Joe Judo.”

Super John vs. Joe Judo - Twinfamy

Wow! I just… I’m sorry, I just need a minute to catch my breath here. What an emotional rollercoaster ride that was, right? I mean, I wrote it myself and I’m on the edge of my seat every time I read it, especially that epic fight scene. If only my chest were as hard as Super John’s, I could really do some good in this world. And I’m so glad that after such a stressful day he was able to have such a great dream.

Anyway, thanks so much to my second grade self for graciously allowing me share this stroke of genius. Please let him know what you think of his work. If we’re lucky, we may even convince him to unearth even more relics from the archives.

  1. Hahahaha wow that’s great! My dad kept some of my work of when I was in K – 4th or 5th grade. :-)

    1. It’s been fun going through all the old stuff in that box. It’s hilarious to see what you were thinking as a kid, isn’t it?

    1. Thanks. What you don’t see here is how many versions I had to go through to get this approved by my teacher. If she couldn’t read something, she’d basically tell us to rewrite it. At the time, there was sort of a consensus among my teachers that my handwriting was terrible, so whenever I did a “final copy” I’d write really slowly and carefully so I’d only have to write it once.

  3. Wow, that was a great story! And so fun to read it in your second grade self’s penmanship. :) My favorite line was Super John’s rejoinder, “Try me!” I can feel the strength of the character in your young mind. So sweet!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, that’s a pretty good line. I’m sure I stole it from a movie or comic book or something, but it’s nicely executed if my second grade self says so himself.

  4. Wow… You can see that you were destined for a lucrative career in blogging. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such nice penmanship for a second-grader…

    1. Haha, yeah, I thought it was pretty funny how early on you can see my “voice” developing. Sadly, I can’t say the same for my handwriting. I think it peaked around this time, and has been in steady decline ever since.
